Welcome Packs

Boat Fishing

In this welcome pack you will find a host of information that will help you enjoy your day out with us and answer any questions that you may have.

About the course

This course will provide you with an introduction into the world of boat fishing. You will be shown the traditional technique of hand lining for Mackerel as well as rod and reel fishing for Pollock. Both delicious, easy to catch and sustainable fish. This will be aboard a fully licensed and insured charter boat for which we have the exclusive use. We will spend an hour previous to the trip to get familiar with the tackle we will be using and through the trip you will gain the essential skills needed to fish from any, or your own boat

We will give you a basic grounding in the following skills:

  • Tying knots
  • Setting up
  • Rig selection
  • Bait selection
  • Lure selection
  • Playing and landing fish
  • Dispatching and preparing fish

The first part of the day will be spent in a safe learning environment (a field!) learning the essentials and the second part of the day will be putting these newly learnt skills to practice and catching some fish.

What do I need to bring?

All fishing or foraging equipment will be provided by us. However there are a few basic things you might want to think about bringing:

Food and drink; Although we will be taking things easy over the day some of the activities we do can be strenuous so we would advise you to bring snacks and something to drink.

A camera; If there is a better sport then fishing to photograph then I am yet to see it. Feel free to bring your camera to capture a few mementos of the day and of course a picture of your catch

A fish bag; The fish you catch will be yours to do with as you choose so you will need to bring something to take your catch home in. A carrier bag is fine but for less than £1 a supermarket bag for life is vastly superior. They are stronger and wipe clean very easily. On a hot day it might also be advisable to bring a cool bag with a freezer pack in it. Again, the are also available in supermarkets for next to nothing.

What should I wear?

Three days prior to your course we will email you an accurate forecast. You just need to dress according to the weather. Whatever the weather I would always recommend bringing a waterproof jacket and a hat. Wellies (or waders if you have them?) are a must. It is also advisable to bring sun cream if you think it is necessary.

Please ensure that you have read our terms and conditions and filled in and returned the customer information sheet

Unfortunately, you will be unable to partake in this course without this information. Of course none of your information will ever be shared with anyone, ever!
